Imari is a production place of Japanese ceramics, otherwise known as "Arita porcelain". It is the port of an island. Imari porcelain was first exported by the Dutch, with their Oriental Company of the United Provinces (the V.O.C). The designs are Europeanized but still very much inspired by the great traditions of Asian spirituality. The Imari style is characterized by three dominant colors: cobalt blue, saffron red and the white background of the porcelain. Imari porcelain had a notable influence on the India Company (we speak of Chinese Imari to designate the porcelain of the India Company), Delft earthenware, Dresden porcalaine and the Meissen factory and even on Limoges porcelain in the 20th century.
