According to legend, Saint Eustace was martyred in 118 AD, on the orders of the Roman Emperor Hadrian.
He was a pagan general, converted to Christianity, after having had a vision of the Cross, while hunting deer; He heard a divine voice prophesy his misfortune.

Illustrious Draftsman, Engraver and Painter of the German Renaissance, he most often signs with his monogram.
He travels a lot, especially in Italy, where he is inspired by the new pictorial currents: He illustrates himself in his famous series of the Apocalypse, or even in Venice with the Virgin of the Feast of the Rosary.
In 1512, he became Court Painter to Maximilian 1st of Habsburg.
In 1526, he painted the Four Apostles.
At his peak, he is illustrated by his rigorous drawings, so faithful to the reality of nature and landscapes
