    Description

"Carle Van Loo, The Hunting Stop (1737), Oil On Canvas, Nineteenth Century - LS38515491"
Large oil on canvas with black lacquered wooden frame and gold molding representing a scene of lunch on the grass in the forest on the occasion of a stop during a hunting party of the eighteenth century.
The forest is represented in the taste of the Flemish landscapes of the seventeenth century and we see different protagonists. In the center, slightly offset to the left of the composition, the main couple, richly dressed, is having lunch while joking. Behind them, we can see many victuals on a large white tablecloth, all around the men, in more practical clothes, are having lunch and being served by servants, one of whom is colored, tanned, which makes it possible to indicate the degree of wealth and importance of the people he accompanies. On the right in the foreground, a seated man looks thoughtfully at the pack mule being loaded to leave and, in front of him, the dogs are patiently waiting.
Revival of the XIXth century, French school.
This painting by Van Loo fits perfectly into the genre of gallant scenes that developed during the reign of Louis XV, which can be compared to the productions of artists such as Watteau or Boucher
