Pair of Louis XVI style lamps of baluster shape in brown lacquered brass.
Chased and gilded bronze mount. Top of the frame decorated with shells and frieze of cables. Ring on the neck. Handles on each side of the lamp in the shape of a laurel wreath tied with a knot and placed on a flower-shaped button. Quadripod base of square shape with cut sides decorated with rosettes and acanthus leaves.
Work done circa 1880.

The Maison Gagneau, bronze and lighting manufacturer, was founded in Paris in 1800. It moved from 25, rue d'Enghien to 115 rue Lafayette. The company was famous throughout the 19th century and took part in the Exhibition of Industrial Products and in the Universal Exhibitions. It was even part of the jury in the bronze category at the Universal Exhibition of 1889.
