"François NARDI (Nice, 1861 - Toulon 1936)- The refit of the ship in the harbor of Toulon."
Oil on panel signed and dated at the bottom right.
Dimensions: 22 x 36 cm, with frame: 30 x 44 cm
Painted with small impressionist touches, the artist paints here a scene full of life.
François Nardi is a French painter of Italian origin and one of the masters of Provençal painting.
Young self-taught painter from Toulon when he was noticed by Frédéric Montenard who gave him his advice and encouraged him to go to Paris. After a stint at the Julian Academy and the exhibition of his works at the Salon des artistes français, he quickly knows the success that goes beyond borders with his landscapes of the Mediterranean and Provence. At the beginning, he has similarities with Claude Monet, his contemporary, but seems to be influenced only slightly by the pictorial movements of his time. Nevertheless, he remains in a line close to the Impressionists. At the peak of his art, setbacks in fortune took him away from Paris and the art world and prevented him from continuing the brilliant career he had led until then. Retired to Toulon in 1909, he did not stop painting until his death
