We are immersed in a typical Capri alley with its old stones and its white walls protecting green settings,
on the horizon appear a triangle of sea sea and the mountain.
Painter of genre, landscapes, wall decorations, pastellist and illustrator, Joseph Avy was a student of Maignan and Bonnat.
He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in Paris from 1900 to 1941 and at the Salon of the National Academy of Fine Arts from 1934 to 1939.
He has been decorated many times: Marie Bashkirtseff Prize in 1900, second class medal in 1903, diploma of honor in 1937, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Cross of guerre.Il married, in 1909, Germaine, the daughter of Albert Besnard. He assisted his father-in-law in the installation of the canvases decorating the dome of the Petit Palais.
Among its decorations, we can mention the wedding hall of the Rotterdam City Hall.
Avy often painted landscapes of Italy.
