Léon JOUHAUD, born December 23, 1874 in Limoges and died in 1950, is a French enameler, painter, watercolorist and pastellist.
Léon Jouhaud studied privately, passed his baccalaureate in 1892 and undertook, passionate about bacteriology, medical studies in Limoges, then in Paris. He practiced in his hometown from 1903 to 1906, then embarked on an artistic career in the field of enamel, an old local tradition. His early aesthetic, neo-impressionism, evolves towards popular or intimate scenes, with flexible or cubizing lines and frank colors. He shares with Camille Tharaud many technical developments and he realizes several porcelain pieces at home.
Bernard Lachaniette dedicated a retrospective of his enamels to him in 1988 in Limoges. A catalog has been published on this occasion.
The Museum of Fine Arts of Limoges, Palace of the Bishopric, in Limoges has an important collection of his works
