"DARBOUR Marguerite, Mary (Born in Florence late nineteenth, early twentieth.)- Naked languid."
Oil on canvas signed at the bottom left.
Dimensions: 54 x 65 cm, with frame: 76 x 87 cm.
A lot of sensuality emanates from this pretty nude of a woman with a blond helmet, languid eyes, rosy cheeks who completely surrenders to the painter's eye in her case of fabrics, cushions and silks.
The subject, the oval format, the decoration of the toile de Jouy remind us of the gallant and libertine scenes of the eighteenth century paintings by Boucher and Fragonard.
The work is painted in a very pretty shade of pink and white, highlighted with pale blue, ranging from the pink of the skin tone to the pinkish reflections of the kimono, the
sheets and pillowcases embellished with vermilion pink lace on the lips and the toile de jouy in the background.
Marguerite, Mary Darbour was born in Florence, a city where she kept her taste for colors, perfect skin tones and silks before completing her studies in Paris at the end of the nineteenth century under the watchful eye of Henri Gervex.
She exhibited female figures, nudes, portraits, landscapes at the Salon des Indépendants in 1903, at the National and Tuileries Salons in 1920.
The female nude is the artist's favorite subject, the one she treats best and who will give us her best paintings
