A pupil of Cabanel, Calderon was above all a landscape painter. Like many landscape painters of his time, he was particularly inspired by the city of Venice which he painted in a style expressionniste.La most of his works represent views of the city and the canals to which are added some maritime paintings. He also travels to Turkey from where he brings back landscapes of Istanbul and the Bosphorus. He participated in the Colonial Exhibition of 1906, the year of his death at the age of 36
