Elie Anatole Pavil (1873 Odessa - Morocco 1948)
Pavil was born in Odessa, Russia, in 1873. He came to Paris in 1892. He settled in Montmartre, rue Caulaincourt. It has arrived at the culmination of the Belle Époque, Pavil is dedicated to capturing its atmosphere on the canvas. For most of the next fifty years, he painted cafes, beautiful women, jazz bands and artists' studios in Paris. Pavil was influenced by Degas and Renoir. Pavil has exhibited at the Salon des artistes français, the Salon des indépendants and the Salon d'automne. He has exhibited at the Charpentier Gallery, the Georges Petit Gallery and the Bernheim Jeune Gallery. Claude Monet called Pavil's paintings "little wonders". He is named Knight of the Region of Honor. Pavil also counts Pissaro among his friends. Pavil will continue to paint with the same passion until the end of his days
