    Description

    Languid nude.

Oil on canvas signed lower left.

    Dimensions: 54 x 65 cm, with frame: 76 x 87 cm.

A lot of sensuality emanates from this pretty nude of a woman with a blond helmet, languid eyes, rosy cheeks which surrenders completely to the painter's eye in her case of fabrics, cushions and silks.

The subject, the oval format, the decoration of the toile de Jouy evoke the gallant and libertine scenes of the 18th century paintings by Boucher and Fragonard.

The work is painted in a very pretty shades of pink and white, enhanced with pale blue, ranging from the pink of the skin tone to the rosy reflections of the kimono, the sheets and pillowcases decorated with vermilion pink lace on the lips and of the toile de jouy from the bottom.

Marguerite, Mary Darbour was born in Florence, a city where she will keep her taste for colors, perfect skin tones and silks before completing her studies in Paris at the end of the 19th century under the watchful eye of Henri Gervex.

She will exhibit female figures, nudes, portraits, landscapes at the Salon des Indépendants in 1903, and at the Salons de la Nationale and the Tuileries in 1920.

The female nude is the artist's favorite subject, the one she treats best and which will give us her best paintings.
