    Description

    • a young aristocrat on a throne, surrounded by his court, to whom a princess is presented.

    • He wears blond and long hair (like Maximilian), a command staff in hand, a collar on his neck (unidentified, not a collar of the order of chivalry like that of Saint-Michel, or the Golden Fleece), is seated on a throne covered with a cloth embroidered with pomegranates that sinks to the ground. * court composed on his right of a group of three women, a couple close to the prince, the princess and a matchmaker making a hand gesture as if to convince the future wife / fiancée of the merits of this union.

    • to the left of the prince is a man between two women

    • the princess is blonde (so by Anne of Brittany), wears a complex headdress (crown, escoffion, tourette), a dress with gold at the base and belt, a coat filled with ermine, a necklace. She receives an offering (spherical object in a silverware dish enhanced with pearls) from a blond servant, bending the knee, in a dress split on the side, being the only discovered character in the image, as a sign of respect.

    • the scene takes place on a floor of a thousand flowers (strawberry, daffodils, honeysuckle? Type XV) and trees appear in the background. A shield occupies each of the upper corners, it certainly identified the sponsor of the work (research to follow). The whole is framed by a fat frieze of flowers (roses, daisies, pansies), leaves, fruits (bunches of grapes) and thin intertwined headbands, which links the work to the Brussels production center.

    * clothing: bear's feet shoes (>1480), berets (deb. XVI), stockings (red), tunics on the thighs with gold at the ends, women's hair visible under particularly rich and complex headdresses (goldsmith's turrets, escoffions), square necklines revealing a shirt, goldsmith's necklaces (no order of chivalry apparently). Mixture of fifteenth and early sixteenth elements that justify the estimated dating.

    * hair style: middle parting and blond for women, long neck hair for men (late fifteenth-early sixteenth, cf. Charles VIII, Ferdinand of Aragon, Charles V young) Our house assures you the sale of a tapestry with invoice and approved expertise, well cleaned, in good condition with its fixing system. If it should be necessary, we will specify the work that has been carried out. All our tapestries can be presented to you at your home in France and neighboring countries before your final decision.
